The advantage of SMILE surgery, in contrast to LASIK and FemtoLASIK, is the absence of a superficial circular incision flap, thereby minimizing disruption to the integrity of the cornea as well as the likelihood of complications
SMILE surgery can only be performed by clinics that have the VisuMax® femtosecond laser from the German company Carl Zeiss. SMILE surgery can only be performed by an ophthalmic surgeon who has received a special certification from Carl Zeiss.
Refractive surgery is characterized by being performed under local anesthesia and requires verbal communication between the patient and the doctor. If the patient is excessively anxious (which is common for any surgery), it can lead to improper execution of instructions given by the doctor, potentially resulting in complications during the course of the surgery. Similar complications during LASIK surgery can lead to long-term refractive errors, while during SMILE surgery, they can usually be resolved within 1-2 days of post-operative recovery. The advantage of SMILE lies in the fact that the effects of the femtosecond laser used during the procedure are minimally invasive and relatively quick, and the most advanced equipment used helps to minimize negative consequences.
Laser vision correction is a highly advanced and costly procedure. Primarily, this is due to the high cost of the laser equipment itself. Additionally, any surgery requires individual licensing and a one-time use of materials procured by the clinic from the manufacturer for each patient.
In cases of Keratoconus and low myopia, the preferred method is SMILE, which offers the smallest volume of refractive surgery compared to other laser correction methods.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is not advisable to undergo laser vision correction due to potential hormonal variations that can affect treatment outcomes. The procedure can be performed at any other time.
In the post-operative period (first week), it is necessary to instill antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and lubricating eye drops. These are provided free of charge for the post-operative period to facilitate recovery, particularly to support optimal healing after refractive surgery.

The clinic houses Carl Zeiss MEL 90 excimer lasers and VisuMax® femtosecond lasers, the latter being the only ones available in Armenia.
